I love finding new girl bands to rock out to, and rising from the North-East oozing confidence, sass and attitude – we have three-piece alt band BigFatBig. They’ve smashed their way onto the Newcastle music scene and now they’re here with their new single, ‘Milk and Vinegar’ available for your listening from today!
It’s an unstoppable punky anthem, shouting loud and proud about one of the best things in life, finding those friendships which are like non-romantic soulmates. Ones you don’t expect to find but when you do, you wonder how on earth you lived without them!
Crowned as one of BBC Introducing’s ‘North East Tips for 2020’, BigFatBig gained support from the best as soon as they began and have worked tirelessly since forming in 2019 to create tune after tune. Initial releases, ‘Science’, and ‘So Bored’ attracted attention and gained support from Radio6 and Radio One’s big weekend.
Frontwoman Robyn Walker divulges “Katie and I Wrote Milk and Vinegar at a time in our lives when we felt like we’d found ‘our people’, after struggling to forge friendships in the past”.
I have to say I love the lyrics ‘Dark Fruits described as fruit shoots’, this certainly paints a picture of the band's humour within their songwriting – something that isn’t always present in other artist’s tunes.
With 2020 set to be a year full of big live performances for the girls, but with the unfamiliar story of COVID slowing artists down, unfortunately, they didn’t happen. But, with gigs now being permitted, we can only hope that we get to see them live soon!
